Rocky's mixed-media practice engages with the rituals, systems, and histories of humanism through repetition and the use of abject and discarded domestic materials. Across installation, textiles, painting, photography, video, and sound performance, the work examines how power, social norms, and human behaviour are constructed, sustained, and bodily rehearsed through a feminist lens and a whirlwind of humour.
My recently completed body of work reimagines devotional motifs, drawing on the tradition of ex voto offerings and their evolution from pagan ritual to formal divinity. These forms, grounded in misfortune and gratitude, become public sites of spiritual and political reflection. Each work is an embodied petition—recording invisible labour, sensuality, exhaustion, and quiet defiance. Together, they honour female suffering and resilience as worthy of veneration, reclaiming domestic space as both altar and theatre of endurance.
I acknowledge that I live and create on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the East Kulin Nations. I pay my respects to the Traditional Owners, their Elders past and present.
